Riccardo Tisci shows Burberry costumes for Marina Abramović's opera “The 7 Deaths of Maria Callas”

7 Deaths of Maria Callas

Riccardo Tisci has shared on Instagram a photo of the costumes created by Burberry for the new opera by Marina Abramovich “7 Deaths of Maria Callas”.

“I am honored to be working with you on this amazing project. I am very proud of you and the fact that you remain a pioneer in this world, ”the designer wrote in a post.

The production consists of 7 legendary Callas arias, each accompanied by a short film starring Abramovic and Hollywood actor Willem Dafoe. It is dedicated to the theme of the finale of the life of the opera diva. After the death of her lover, Aristotle Onassis, in 1975, she locked herself in her apartment and two years later died of cardiac arrest, at the age of 53.

Abramovich plays Callas, and the identities of the artist and the singer merge, so it is not always clear who it is about. Defoe plays the main character's lover and killer.

The videos were recorded in Los Angeles in November 2019. The music for the opera was written by the Serbian composer Marko Nikodievich. The premiere was supposed to take place on April 11 at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, but due to the pandemic it was postponed to September 1.

Saint Laurent purchased vintage YSL collection

These are the archives of Saint Laurent Rive Gauche

Anthony Vaccarello, creative director of Saint Laurent, acquired the vintage YSL collection from designer Olivier Chatenet. The collection consists of four thousand items created from 1966 to 1985. The amount of the deal was not disclosed.

The collection consists mainly of Saint Laurent Rive Gauche ready-to-wear garments, including coats, dresses, suits, blouses, knitwear, bags, shoes, jewelry, scarves and some haute couture outfits. The collection includes a 1967 African-style beaded gown previously owned by the Duchess of Windsor. The items will be housed in the existing Saint Laurent archive located at the brand's headquarters in Paris.

“I love that my collection will live its life and be useful. I have had a lot of fun over the past 30 years, putting it together and showing it at exhibitions in Paris, Hong Kong and Shanghai. I still love it, even if it is more to me does not belong, "commented Olivier Chatenet. The designer noted that he absolutely trusts the house of Saint Laurent and Anthony Vaccarello: "They have complete freedom to save and use the collection as they please."

Armani says fashion marketing "raping" women

MILAN, Feb 21 (Reuters) - Giorgio Armani accused the fashion industry on Friday of “raping” women with short-lived trends and sex-driven marketing.

“I think it’s time for me to say what I think. Women keep getting raped by designers,” Armani, 85, told reporters on the sidelines of a show for his Emporio Armani line at Milan Fashion Week.

“If a lady walks on the street and sees an ad with a woman with her boobs and arse in plain sight and she wants to be like that too, that’s a way of raping her,” Armani said. “You can rape a woman in many ways, either by throwing her in the basement or by suggesting that she dresses in a certain way.”

Armani, known for his sober, elegant outfits, founded his label in 1975 and has built it into a global brand.

“In my show, there are short skirts, long skirts, ample and tight trousers. I have given maximum freedom to women who can use all possibilities if they are sensible,” he said.

“I’m sick of hearing the word ‘trend’. We need to try to work for today’s woman. There shouldn’t be trends,” he said.

He said his Emporio Armani show, his younger line, was inspired by “strong-willed” young women.

He will present the Fall/Winter 2020 collection for his main Giorgio Armani line on Sunday. (Reporting by Claudia Cristoferi ; Writing by James Mackenzie; Editing by Janet Lawrence)
