And the countdown for the Met Gala begins

The countdown for the Met Gala — the Metropolitan Museum of Art's annual fund-raising ball, masterminded by Anna Wintour is now in session. Will fame change the party that André Leon Talley likes to call  “the Super Bowl of fashion events"? Will Rihanna show up? Here is what you need to know:

Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between. The 74-year-old designer founded the Comme des Garçons label in 1969, which is known for their avant garde designs. She was one of many Japanese designers to emerge on the Paris fashion scene in the 80s. Expect to see celebs step out in out-of-the-box, avant garde looks.

This year Katy Perry is co-hosting, alongside Gisele and Tom Brady and Caroline Kennedy. Other notable attendees will include Blake Lively, Allison Williams, Jessica Chastain, Lily Aldridge, Hailey Baldwin, Ashley Graham, Naomi Watts, Martha Hunt and more. And Kim Kardashian is attending alone. Kanye is staying home to concentrate on his health.

The Met Fifth Avenue will be closed on Monday for the #MetGala. The @MetBreuer and The #MetCloisters will be open.

Today, The Met held a press preview for The #CostumeInstitute exhibition “#ManusxMachina: Fashion in an Age of Technology,” on view to the public from May 5 through August 14. Presented in the Museum’s Robert Lehman Wing, the exhibition explores how designers are reconciling the handmade and the machine-made in the creation of haute couture and avant-garde ready-to-wear. This view features one of the highlights of the exhibition: Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel wedding ensemble, a perfect melding of hand and machine and one of curator Andrew Bolton’s inspirations for the show. #TheMet #MetGala
