An important message is to be heard during fashion month as Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) join force to stand up against racism and hatred. The Council has encouraged designers to fight for constitutional rights in a very public way.
“We want to be on the front line, not the sidelines, to boldly fight to protect our precious rights and freedoms, which has taken on a renewed urgency after the heart-wrenching events of Charlottesville,” CFDA President and CEO Steven Kolb said in a statement. “Our goal is to actively support concrete work that will move our country meaningfully forward. The ACLU is doing that critical work.”
Designers like Diane Von Furstenberg, Prabal Gurung, Derek Lam, Adam Selman and Public School will user the "Fashion for ACLU" tagline to express the support during fashion shows and parties.
So how do they plan to do so? Over 50 designers and brands—including Adam Selman, Diane von Furstenberg, Narciso Rodriguez, Prabal Gurung, Derek Lam, Public School, and Everlane—will use the “Fashion for ACLU” tagline to express their support at their fashion shows and accompanying parties from Sept. 7 to 14.
ACLU blue lapel ribbon will be seen to show support as well.
The official hashtags used are #StandWithACLU and #FashionforACLU.
