Produced by Lennon and Justin Clayton, mixed by Andreas Ahlenius, and mastered by Björn Engelman, ‘Saltwater' was co-written with longtime collaborator Mark Spiro and Leslie Spiro in 1990, and was Lennon’s first stand on environmental conservation and the plight of indigenous peoples of the world. The single was certified platinum in Australia, topping the singles chart for four weeks, as well as reaching #6 on the UK singles charts, while also hitting Top 10 Radio throughout the rest of Asia & Europe.

“I felt that after 25 Years of watching what has been happening to Our Mother and All of Her Children, that I owed it not only to Myself, but to everyone, in many respects, to rerecord this song of sympathy/empathy, this Philanthropic Anthem, for future generations that hadn’t heard it before, and to remind myself too, of the challenges we still face… And as a Shy and introspective Man myself, who has no political agendas as such, the only way to make My Voice truly heard in Life’s Arena, was to sing this song again, with a more appropriate, and contemporary take on today’s world, because it seems to me, and many others, that the World is 25 times worse than it was 25 years ago, on a Humanitarian & Environmental level…. Hopefully, ‘Saltwater25’ can bring around that awareness of what We’re doing again, and maybe, just maybe, change a few minds into making some major changes, for the betterment of all…”

The video for “Saltwater,” Executive Produced by Dick Carruthers (The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney), is a delight of mixed media techniques, created at Trunk Animations London studio (Coldplay, Elton John). Directed by Layla Atkinson and Jock Mooney and Produced by Richard Barnett.
