On April 23rd, Beyonce graced us with the release of her “visual album”, Lemonade. The HBO special showed spectacular music videos for 12 out of 13 songs on the album. The music was empowering, emotional, and raw. There seemed to be a focus on many things, including women empowerment, racism, and discrimination. Of course, the main topic that people are buzzing about is the rocky love story told. It has been rumored that Beyonce’s husband, Jay-Z, previously cheated on her.
Side note: who the heck cheats on Beyonce…?!
Her songs strongly suggest that he did, and she even calls the woman out by dubbing her “Becky with the good hair.” Of course the Beehive went insane, commenting bee and lemon emojis on every woman who is a potential suspect. While I admit this story is very entertaining, I don’t think Beyonce intended for the possible affair to be getting all of the attention. She dropped what will most likely be one of the most iconic albums of our time. The entire special was pure genius. The videos are phenomenal, the music is unreal, the story is raw, and the lyrics are genius. If you haven’t heard Lemonade, you can only listen to it on HBO, Spotify, and Jay-Z’s website: Tidal. Thank you, Queen B for blessing us with this.
