Schiaparelli has appointed Daniel Roseberry to the role of artistic director who joins the company from Thom Browne, where he was design director of womenswear and menswear. The US designer replaces Bertrand Guyon who announced his departure on 19 April.
“It is my great honour and my joy to pick up where Mme. Schiaparelli left off some 85 years ago,” Roseberry said in a statement. “Schiaparelli was a master of the modern; her work reflected the chaos and hope of the turbulent era in which she lived.
Elsa Schiaparelli, (born Sept. 10, 1890, Rome, Italy—died Nov. 13, 1973, Paris, France), Italian-born fashion designer who established an important couture house in Paris. She was famous for her Surrealist fashions of the 1930s and for her witty accessories, such as a purse in the shape of a telephone.
