The pop singer and style icon Rihanna is set to launch "Fenty" this spring, a new house that joins the ranks of Louis Vuitton, Givenchy and Marc Jacobs. Her brand will join other famous names such as Dior, Givenchy and Fendi according to a statement released by LVMH yesterday. Rihanna shared the exciting news on social media on Friday.

“Designing a line like this with LVMH is an incredibly special moment for us,” Rihanna, 31, said in the statement. “Mr. Arnault has given me a unique opportunity to develop a fashion house in the luxury sector, with no artistic limits. I couldn’t imagine a better partner both creatively and business-wise, and I’m ready for the world to see what we have built together.”
The multi talented pop star/actress/image-maker now has as much global currency, name-recognition and influence as designers like Hedi Slimane and Nicolas Ghesquière.
While this is an exciting news, a question comes to mind is Rihanna really in the same vein as Slimane and Ghesquiere, with no professional understanding of construction and design and is LVMH desperate for money to sign with Rihanna because of her influence? What about the real talent in fashion and design?
