Rio Carnival and Jean Paul Gaultier team up for something Sensational!

The Grêmio Recreativo Escola de Samba Portela is one of the most traditional samba schools of the city of Rio de Janeiro, and champion of the 2017 Carnival parade. It is the greatest winner of the top-tier Rio parade with 22 titles in total. School teams up with Jean Paul Gaultier to create a multitude of costumes for the Rio Carnival, alongside Brazilian artist Rosa Magalhães.

Designer Jean Paul Gaultier is preparing to create costumes for the March 2019 Rio Carnival. Professor and artist Rosa Magalhães, known for her use of color, which has afforded her designs considerable respect at the Rio de Janeiro Carnival teamed up with Jean Paul Gaultier and this year will pay tribute to samba star and singer Clara Nunes, who passed away on April 2 1983. Prepare for something sensational!

Clara Nunes was a Brazilian samba and MPB singer, considered one of the greatest of her generation. She was the first female singer in Brazil to sell over 100,000 copies of a record, with "Tristeza Pé No Chão" and her achievements in the samba genre earned her the title of "Queen of Samba"
