The Fondation Alaïa

Maison Alaïa announced announced formation of the Fondation Alaïa at 18 Rue de la Verrerie, in the building where Alaïa lived and worked. The location also houses the late designer’s exhibition space and shop.

An exhibition is curated by Olivier Saillard will exhibit Alaïa’s “heritage, style, icons, and savoir-faire,” all during the Haute Couture collections next month.

Saillard told Vogue he considers this project a particularly personal endeavor. “It’s more than a professional mission. For me, it’s an honor and a responsibility. Azzedine is someone I admired, but he was also a friend.”

The show, called “Azzedine Alaïa: Je Suis Couturier,” and will feature 35 pieces focusing on evening wear and pieces that “show Alaïa’s high and noble work as a French couturier.” It will include never before seen work and several evening dresses from his final couture presentation last July.

Azzedine did the work. Now it’s up to us to build his memory", said Saillard.
